Jorge Fontes Hereda was born in Salvador (Bahia), on 27 September 1956. He graduated in Architecture from Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and accomplished his Master’s degree in Architecture & Urbanism at University of São Paulo (USP).
From 1993 to 2002, he accumulated experience in several secretaries of São Paulo Government, such as Housing & Urban Development of the city of Diadema, Sustained Development of Ribeirão Pires, Services and Works of São Paulo city and was also Executive Secretary of the Inter-municipal Consortium of Greater ABC. In addition, he was President of the Metropolitan Housing Company of São Paulo (COHAB).
Once in the Federal Government, between the years 2003 and 2005, he was Secretary of Housing of the Ministry of Cities. In 2005, he occupied the Vice-Presidency of the Government of Caixa Econômica Federal, a position he held until March 2011, when he assumed the Presidency of the institution.
